Here's a nice review of my favorite show from the entire Brent era (and beyond). Garcia was in fine form the whole year and this may be the best.

This is also my favorite '80s show. I think I wrote a lengthy post about it exactly a year ago. Since nobody here mentioned how amazing this Estimated >UJB is as well as the Stella Blue, I'd like to give a nod to those performances as well.

5-01-81 Hampton is just as good, and 5-06-81 Nassau has the best post-He's Gone jam I have heard, not to mention a ripping GDTRFB.

Possibly the best China>Rider of the '80s (that I've heard thus far).

At least three very good to great sources for this show: Glassberg, CM and Hunter. I like Hunters the best.

I agree w/ Strat that there are better shows from the 80s, but this one is mighty fine.

The show had an excellent Bird Song and China Cat.

from 80-83 I would take these shows ahead of 03-09, don't get me wrong 03-09 is a great show...03-09 would be right there with 05-01-81 for me...

09-06-80, 10-10-80, 05-06-81, 05-16-81, 10-19-81, 04-19-82, 08-03-1982, 10-10-82, 10-15-83

If I were to say one show was the best of that era it would be this one.

I like this new source. The lack of a matrixable SBD keeps this show from getting its due credit. I just spent 4 hours on a plane listening to this from start to finish. WOW! I saw the two shows bookending this but I was still a newb and didn't get tickets for the Saturday show. The only show I honestly regret missing that I easily could have seen. I never did that again.

My two favorite China/Riders, this one and your pick.

Too bad there's no way to surgically remove the Tenn Jed>LLR tumor from this show.

This is still my favorite show of 1981, altho' there were many many good ones in this very underrated year. That MSG 3-9-81 show is fantastic, too...but I still say this one has the best execution of material, even if the set list appears "ordinary."

dont recall anything wrong with the TJed and LLR, why pick on the originals from the E72 sets when they trot out Around and Around and that damn awful Good Lovin in the second set?

Because they suck. Row Jimmy, Eyes, HCS, Stagger Lee, or Jack a Roe would've fit the bill there.

Just sayin'
